Former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has called on Nigerians to ensure that religion serves as a force for unity rather than division in the country.
Fashola stressed the need for Nigerians to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding despite their religious differences.
He noted that religion should not be used as a tool to create division or deepen tensions among citizens, urging religious leaders and followers to focus on values that promote peace, tolerance and national unity.
According to him, Nigeria’s religious diversity should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds among citizens rather than a source of conflict.
Fashola’s comments come amid ongoing concerns over religious tensions and divisions in parts of the country.
He urged Nigerians to look beyond their religious differences and work together towards building a peaceful and united nation.
The former governor maintained that the country’s progress depends largely on the ability of its citizens to coexist peacefully and respect one another, regardless of their faith.
He further called on religious leaders to use their positions to promote dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Fashola said religion should ultimately bring people together and contribute to the development of the country, rather than become a reason for Nigerians to turn against one another.
