The Osun State Police Command has brokered an agreement between the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent a clash between their final campaign rallies ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The resolution followed a strategic meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police (Elections), CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, with leaders and representatives of both political parties over a clash in the proposed dates and venues of their respective final campaign activities.
The meeting, according to a statement issued by the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, was aimed at preventing possible confrontation between supporters of the two parties and maintaining peace throughout the electioneering period.
Following deliberations, the parties agreed on separate dates and venues for their final campaign rallies.
Under the agreement, the Accord Party will hold its final campaign rally on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Fakunle, Osogbo, while the APC will hold its final rally on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Freedom Park.
The police commissioner commended the leadership of both parties for demonstrating maturity and commitment to peaceful democratic engagement by choosing dialogue over confrontation.
CP Etaifo also urged political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the campaigns.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to providing adequate security for all lawful political activities, warning that the command would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the peace in Osun State.
The commissioner specifically warned against violence, intimidation, thuggery, incitement and other acts capable of causing a breach of public peace.
According to him, anyone found violating the law will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Osun State Police Command further assured residents, political parties and other stakeholders of its commitment to providing a secure environment throughout the electioneering period.
The command also appealed to members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
