Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this while speaking at the second edition of the Eko Health Convention held in Lagos on Friday.

Sanwo-Olu described health insurance as a major pillar of the state’s drive to ensure that residents can access quality healthcare services regardless of their income or location.
According to the governor, the administration is focused on building sustainable healthcare institutions and financing systems that will continue to serve residents beyond the tenure of the current government.
He said the state’s ongoing reforms were aimed at making healthcare more accessible and affordable, while strengthening institutions responsible for delivering health services.
The governor also recalled that his administration signed an Executive Order in July 2024 to domesticate the National Health Insurance Authority Act in Lagos State, making health insurance mandatory across the state.
Sanwo-Olu said the increase in enrolment had contributed to greater utilisation of healthcare services by residents, adding that the government was also introducing flexible payment options to make insurance premiums easier for residents to afford.
One of the initiatives highlighted was the Ilera Eko EasyPay platform, which allows enrollees to pay their health insurance premiums in instalments rather than making a single upfront payment.
The governor said the measures were part of broader efforts to remove financial barriers to healthcare and move Lagos closer to achieving universal health coverage.
The state government is expected to continue expanding health insurance enrolment and introducing additional financing mechanisms as part of its efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and improve access to medical services across Lagos.
The Lagos State Government has stepped up its efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with more than 1.5 million residents now enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme.
