The proposed opposition political parties’ summit convened by the G-100 has been rescheduled from August 18 to August 31, 2026.

The organisers said the postponement would allow participating political parties to undertake further consultations following the recently held National Peace Summit.

The summit is expected to bring together major opposition figures and political parties as part of efforts to build a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The G-100 is calling on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and other opposition leaders to work towards a united political front and consider presenting a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.

According to the group, a divided opposition would struggle to unseat the incumbent president at the polls.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by former APC chieftain, Salihu Lukman, the group said the decision to shift the date followed consultations with six participating opposition parties and members of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives.

The organisers said the additional consultations were necessary to broaden participation and strengthen the prospects of achieving a coordinated opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The proposed summit comes amid growing efforts among opposition parties and political actors to form alliances ahead of the presidential contest, with questions surrounding possible candidates, party platforms and the structure of any potential coalition expected to dominate discussions
