Oyo State elders have called on political parties and their candidates to ensure that their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections remain peaceful, issue-based and devoid of violence.
The elders made the appeal amid growing political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections, stressing the need for politicians to prioritise the peace, unity and development of the state above personal and partisan interests.
They urged political actors to avoid inflammatory statements, intimidation and actions capable of heating up the polity, while encouraging voters to make informed choices based on candidates’ programmes and track records.
The elders also appealed to security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a level playing field and create an environment where citizens can freely participate in the electoral process without fear.
They maintained that peaceful campaigns and credible elections were essential to sustaining democracy and ensuring continued development in Oyo State.
