President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi and other political stakeholders have signed a peace accord ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The political leaders pledged to promote peaceful campaigns and conduct their activities within the provisions of the law as the country prepares for the elections.
The accord is aimed at encouraging issue-based campaigns and discouraging hate speech, violence, intimidation, personal attacks and other actions capable of threatening the peace and stability of the country.
The signatories also committed themselves to respecting the outcome of the electoral process and pursuing any grievances through lawful and constitutional means.
The development comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
The peace accord is expected to serve as a framework for ensuring that political parties and their candidates conduct their campaigns peacefully while allowing Nigerians to make informed choices based on competing policies and programmes.
