Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has reportedly decided to join Barcelona, turning down interest from Real Madrid in a major twist to his future.
Rodri’s agent, Pablo Barquero, confirmed that the 30-year-old midfielder has informed Real Madrid of his decision to pursue a move to Barcelona. Reports say the Catalan club has reached an agreement with the player on personal terms after sending a contract proposal to his representatives.
According to reports, Rodri’s preference for Barcelona was influenced by his desire to return to Spain and the club’s footballing project. Barcelona’s squad also includes several of his Spain teammates, making the move particularly attractive to the midfielder.
Real Madrid had been strongly pursuing the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder and reportedly presented an attractive proposal. However, Barquero indicated that Rodri had decided on Barcelona despite Madrid’s interest.
The proposed transfer is not yet fully completed, as Barcelona still has to reach a final agreement with Manchester City over the transfer fee. Reports indicate that negotiations are ongoing, with figures around €60 million (£52m) being discussed.
Rodri is currently in the final year of his Manchester City contract, adding urgency to negotiations over his future. If completed, the move would represent one of the biggest transfers of the summer and a significant blow to Real Madrid’s plans
