Publisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has explained his decision to support Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 governorship election despite belonging to a rival opposition party.

Momodu, in a statement on Tuesday, said opposition parties in Osun must put personal and political interests aside and unite behind Adeleke ahead of Saturday’s election.
The former presidential aspirant stressed that he remained a proud member of the ADC, explaining that his decision to support Adeleke was driven by the broader objective of building a formidable opposition against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, he joined the ADC after prominent opposition figures agreed to form a broad coalition to challenge the APC, which he accused of undermining the country’s economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance and democratic institutions.
“I joined ADC on the basis that prominent members of opposition parties in Nigeria decided to form a broad coalition of forces against the APC cankerworm that has almost destroyed our economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance and democratic institutions and separation of powers,” Momodu said.
He said he had earlier prayed that differences in personalities and political interests would not undermine the opposition coalition.
Momodu also expressed disappointment that the coalition appeared to be facing fresh divisions, despite the ADC having attracted prominent political figures, including candidates who finished second, third and fourth in the 2023 presidential election.
The media personality maintained that the opposition needed to focus on its larger objective rather than allow individual ambitions and disagreements to weaken the coalition.
His endorsement of Adeleke is expected to generate further reactions within the ADC and the wider opposition camp as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
