Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.

Mustapha announced his resignation in a statement titled “Notice of Resignation as a Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)”, saying his decision followed recent developments within the party in the state.
The senator said the decision was not taken lightly, noting that it followed weeks of extensive consultations and engagements with political stakeholders, his supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District and other well-meaning Kwarans.
According to him, his decision was guided by his belief that politics should be centred on the people, principles and purpose.
“As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose. Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course,” he said.
Mustapha also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the APC, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he said he had gained during his years in the party.
He said his resignation from the APC in Kwara State should not be interpreted as a departure from his political principles or commitment to his constituents.

The senator assured his supporters, political associates and stakeholders that although his political platform may change, his principles, purpose and commitment to the people would remain unchanged.
“To my constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State and beyond, I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” Mustapha stated.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria.
“I remain steadfast in my service to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Mustapha signed the statement as Turaki of Ilorin Emirate and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District.
His resignation comes amid increasing political realignments across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political actors reassessing their affiliations and alliances.
The development is expected to generate reactions within the Kwara political landscape, particularly among APC members and supporters in the state, as attention shifts to Mustapha’s next political move.
The senator, however, did not disclose in his statement which political party or platform he intends to join next.
