Fresh controversy has emerged over the ₦15 billion LAMECO Flyover Bridge in Osogbo following the commencement of another round of repair works just weeks after the project was officially commissioned by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The flyover, which was inaugurated as one of the flagship infrastructure projects of the Adeleke administration, was presented by the governor as a landmark achievement delivered under the state’s local content policy. At the commissioning, Governor Adeleke stated that the project showcased the capacity of indigenous engineers, contractors, and suppliers to deliver infrastructure that meets world-class quality standards.

However, the recent appearance of engineers and maintenance workers on the bridge has sparked fresh debate, with critics alleging that the structure has undergone multiple repair interventions since its commissioning. The development has reignited concerns over the quality of the project and the value delivered for the reported ₦15 billion cost.

During the construction phase, the opposition had repeatedly questioned the quality of work on the bridge, warning that the project could suffer structural defects if the alleged shortcomings were not addressed. At the time, the state government dismissed the criticisms and maintained that the bridge met the required engineering standards.

The latest repair works have provided fresh ammunition for opposition figures, who argue that the development validates their earlier concerns about the project’s execution. They have called on the state government to provide a detailed explanation for the repeated maintenance work and reassure the public about the structural integrity and safety of the flyover.
