Retirees in Lagos State have threatened to intensify their demands for improved pension benefits, expressing dissatisfaction with the state government’s handling of pension enhancement.

The retirees are reportedly seeking an upward review of their pensions to reflect current economic realities and the rising cost of living.

They argued that the existing pension payments are no longer sufficient to meet their basic needs, particularly amid high food prices, healthcare costs and other living expenses.

The retirees maintained that they served the Lagos State Government during their active years and deserved better welfare after retirement.

They called on the state government to urgently address their demands and implement a pension enhancement that would provide meaningful relief to pensioners.

The development has heightened tensions between the retirees and the state government, with the pensioners indicating that they may take further steps if their concerns are not addressed.

The retirees urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to engage them in meaningful dialogue and provide a clear timeline for resolving the pension issue.

The dispute comes amid broader concerns among Nigerian pensioners over the adequacy of retirement benefits as inflation and the cost of living continue to rise.
