The value of Tony Elumelu’s indirect stake in Seplat Energy has surged by about ₦163 billion in a single trading session, following a 10 per cent jump in the company’s share price on Thursday.

Seplat Energy’s shares closed at ₦14,907.80, pushing the value of the 120.4 million shares held by Heirs Energies and Heirs Holdings to approximately ₦1.80 trillion, equivalent to about $1.36 billion.
The 120.4 million shares represent a 20.07 per cent stake in Seplat, making Elumelu the company’s largest disclosed shareholder. He is also expected to assume the position of chairman of Seplat Energy on January 1, 2027.
Thursday’s rally lifted the value of the stake from about ₦1.63 trillion on Wednesday, representing a one-day increase of roughly ₦163 billion.
The gain becomes even more significant when compared with previous valuations. On September 1, the stake was valued at approximately ₦1.48 trillion, while its value stood at about ₦1.37 trillion on June 30.
This means the holding has gained approximately ₦427 billion since the end of June.
Heirs acquired the 20.07 per cent stake from French oil company Maurel & Prom on December 31, 2025, for about $500 million.
Just eight months after the acquisition, the same 120.4 million shares are now valued at approximately ₦1.80 trillion, underscoring the sharp appreciation in Seplat’s market value.
Seplat Energy is a Nigerian independent energy company listed on both the Nigerian and London stock exchanges.
