The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from the opposition summit scheduled for today by the socio-political pressure group, G100, saying the party was not involved in the planned gathering.
The summit is expected to bring together political figures from different opposition camps to discuss strategies for the 2027 general elections, including the possibility of presenting a consensus presidential candidate capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, the proposed alliance has suffered setbacks, with some opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), earlier withdrawing from the arrangement.
Speaking with The Nation, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mohammed Jagundo, said the party was not aware of any summit being organised by opposition political parties.
“We are not aware of any summit being organised by opposition parties,” Jagundo said.
The PDP’s position further casts uncertainty over the level of participation the G100 summit may attract as opposition groups continue discussions on how best to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
