The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Yoruba Nollywood actress and producer Temitope “Tope” Osoba, who passed away at the age of 40 after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.

Osoba reportedly died on the evening of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with the heartbreaking news confirmed by fellow actor Alesh Ola Sanni, who paid an emotional tribute to the late actress on social media. Several colleagues and fans have since expressed shock and grief over her passing, describing her as a resilient entertainer whose courage inspired many within and outside the movie industry.

Her death comes barely a year after she publicly celebrated her recovery and return to acting following years of treatment for breast cancer. During her health struggle, Osoba underwent multiple surgeries and frequently appealed for financial support from Nigerians. Her eventual recovery and return to movie sets were widely hailed as a symbol of hope and resilience.

Temitope Kofoworola Osoba built a successful career spanning over two decades in the Yoruba arm of Nollywood. Renowned for her captivating performances, she featured in numerous indigenous films and also worked as a producer, earning admiration for her versatility, professionalism and dedication to the growth of the industry. Tributes have continued to pour in from actors, filmmakers and fans across the country, many remembering her as a courageous woman who fought illness with remarkable strength while remaining committed to her craft.
