The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike at universities in Bayelsa State over unresolved issues relating to the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the payment of 19 months’ salary arrears.

The decision, according to the union, followed the failure of the relevant authorities to resolve outstanding issues affecting academic staff in the state-owned universities.
ASUU members are demanding the implementation of agreed employment conditions as well as the payment of salaries and other entitlements owed to lecturers for 19 months.
The union’s action is expected to affect academic activities at the affected institutions, with students and other members of the university community likely to bear the immediate impact of the industrial action.
ASUU has repeatedly raised concerns over the welfare of university lecturers, insisting that governments must honour agreements reached with academic staff and address outstanding financial obligations.
The union is expected to maintain the strike until meaningful progress is made on its demands.
The development adds to the growing concerns over funding, staff welfare and industrial relations in Nigeria’s university system.
