The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, the celebration of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The declaration is expected to allow Muslim faithful across Nigeria to observe the religious occasion and participate in prayers and other activities marking the day.
The public holiday will apply nationwide, giving workers and residents an opportunity to celebrate Eid ul Mawlid with their families and communities.
The Federal Government has also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to promote peace, unity, love, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Eid ul Mawlid is observed by Muslims in remembrance of the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is marked in different communities through prayers, religious lectures, gatherings and acts of charity.
With the declaration, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will be observed as a work-free day across the country.
