The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the convoy conveying Dr. (Mrs.) Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the party’s governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, was attacked on Sunday at Alajue Village in Ede South Local Government Area.
According to the party, the incident occurred while Dr. Oyebamiji and other APC members were returning from a political programme held in Alajue Ward 2. The convoy was reportedly ambushed along the Alajue–Sekona Garage axis.
In a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Salami, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji and Princess Abimbola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, escaped unharmed due to the swift intervention of security operatives.
However, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, who was part of the entourage, reportedly sustained severe machete injuries to the head and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Hon. Salami condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on democratic values, and called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The statement also alleged that several individuals said to be members of the Accord Party were involved in the attack. Those named include Alaga Mighty, Imonmonran, Asimi Baraka, Sodiki Saibu, Taofiki Omo Baba Money, Ojo Jaspa, Solape Alata, and Taye Trouble.
Salami urged security agencies to investigate the allegations and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He stressed that political violence, intimidation, and attacks on opponents have no place in a democratic society, calling on all stakeholders to uphold peace and maintain law and order across Ede South and Osun State.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Accord Party or the Nigeria Police Force regarding the allegations.
