The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to intensify the protection of schools and critical infrastructure across Lagos State.
The Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, made the call during a visit to the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC, where he also presented operational equipment to strengthen the capacity of personnel.
The items donated included 30 ballistic helmets, 30 bulletproof vests and 100 raincoats.
Ogunsan described the NSCDC as a strategic partner in the security architecture of Lagos and commended the Corps for its contributions to protecting lives and property across the state.
He, however, placed particular emphasis on the protection of schools, warning that the safety of children must be treated as a major security priority.
“Our children need to be safe. If we don’t do anything for the young ones, it’s like we are preparing for a very horrible future for ourselves,” Ogunsan said.
He added that children should be able to attend school without fear and return safely to their families.
The LSSTF boss also urged the NSCDC to sustain its surveillance and protection of critical infrastructure across the state, stressing that such facilities remained vital to Lagos’ security and development.
Ogunsan said the donation was both a demonstration of appreciation for the Corps’ efforts and a reflection of the LSSTF’s commitment to supporting security agencies.
He assured the command that additional operational equipment would be provided as resources became available.
Receiving the items, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Sunday Keshinro, described the donation as a welcome development, saying it would motivate personnel and improve their effectiveness.
Keshinro also disclosed that the command continued to face infrastructural challenges.
According to him, the Lagos State Government allocated 2,021 square metres of land in Alausa on August 9, 2024, for the construction of a six-storey headquarters for the NSCDC, but funding constraints had delayed the commencement of the project.
He added that the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, had provided another permanent facility for the command at Iponri, where refurbishment had commenced.
The commandant said the NSCDC currently operates 50 divisional offices and 10 area commands across Lagos State, assuring residents that the Corps remained committed to maintaining a strong security presence and protecting critical assets across the state.
