The Kaduna State Government has approved N300 million to support the payment of allowances to academic staff in state-owned tertiary institutions as it seeks to address issues surrounding the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The approval is part of efforts by the state government to resolve the dispute and ensure that academic activities resume in the affected institutions.

The government has also commenced discussions with ASUU representatives and other relevant stakeholders in an effort to reach an agreement on the issues that led to the industrial action.

The development is expected to provide a basis for further negotiations between the state government and the lecturers’ union, particularly on welfare and other outstanding demands.

The government is reportedly seeking a peaceful resolution to the dispute and the restoration of normal academic activities in the affected institutions.

The N300 million allocation underscores the government’s effort to respond to some of the financial concerns raised by academic staff, while the ongoing talks are expected to determine the next steps towards ending the strike.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the impact of prolonged industrial actions on students, academic calendars and the overall education system.

Stakeholders have continued to call for constructive dialogue between the government and ASUU, stressing that a quick resolution is necessary to prevent further disruption to students’ education.
