Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to serving only one four-year term if elected President of Nigeria.
Obi made the declaration during an interview with Arise TV, where he said he does not need decades in office to change the direction of the country.
According to him, Nigeria is currently heading in the wrong direction, but a focused administration can reverse the trend within four years.
“You do not need 100 years to steer this nation in the right direction. Nigeria is heading in the wrong direction today. I just need to reverse course and put it back on track.
“I am not desperate. In four years, Nigerians will see the difference. I transformed Anambra in four years.”
Obi has repeatedly maintained that he would not seek a second term if elected, arguing that four years is sufficient for a committed leader to establish the foundations for good governance. His one-term pledge has been publicly reiterated on several occasions.
He has also previously stated that he would not remain in office beyond four years, regardless of the constitutional provision allowing a president to seek re-election.
