Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, arresting five persons believed to be associates of a notorious bandit operating in the area.

The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
Zubairu said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, September 3, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the troops at about 12:30 a.m. regarding the location of the suspected bandit’s hideout.
According to him, troops of Sector 1, working in conjunction with personnel from Sector 3 under Operation Whirl Stroke, subsequently launched a precision raid on the identified location.
However, the suspected terrorists reportedly fled before the arrival of the troops after allegedly receiving information from informants about the movement of the security personnel.
Despite the escape of the main targets, five suspected associates were arrested during the operation.
The military authorities are expected to continue efforts to track down the fleeing suspects as investigations and security operations in the area continue.
