The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council announced by the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the campaign council did not originate from its leadership and urged the public and media to disregard the announcement.
In a statement, the NDC National Chairman said only the party’s leadership has the authority to constitute and announce its Presidential Campaign Council.
The statement followed the unveiling of the 59-member council by the OK Movement, which reportedly included zonal and state coordinators as well as directors overseeing mobilisation, women’s affairs, strategy, security, legal affairs, and other areas.
The party warned that no member, candidate, or support group was authorised to announce or establish a campaign council or any other structure in its name without prior approval from the National Working Committee.
It acknowledged the contributions of support groups but stressed that such groups must not operate as parallel structures of the party.
The party also said it would refer the Director-General of the OK Movement to its appropriate disciplinary organ over alleged excesses during the party’s Lagos primary and what it described as repeated disregard for party authority.
The development comes amid preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the OK Movement presenting itself as a support platform for the NDC presidential ticket.
