The presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held a strategic meeting with the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, amid the leadership crisis currently rocking the OK Movement, a major support group backing their 2027 presidential bid.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of growing concerns within the movement following the emergence of rival factions in the OK Movement, a coalition of the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwasiyya Movement established to mobilise nationwide support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
The internal wrangling has unsettled members and supporters of the movement, with many expressing fears that the crisis could undermine the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 general elections if not swiftly resolved.
Confirming the meeting in a post on his official Facebook page, Senator Dickson disclosed that he hosted Obi and Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence for discussions on the future of the party and preparations for the forthcoming electioneering campaigns.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the meeting centred on what he described as the “positive state of affairs” within the NDC and strategies to strengthen the party ahead of the commencement of campaigns expected later this month.
Dickson also used the opportunity to appeal for unity among party members and supporters, urging them to remain focused on the party’s collective objective.
“I call on all members, supporters and stakeholders of our great party to unite, remain steadfast and work together for victory for all candidates of our party,” the NDC national leader stated.
The meeting is widely seen as part of efforts by the party’s leadership to calm tensions within the OK Movement and reinforce internal cohesion as the race toward the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
