The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against a planned protest by a group it identified as the “Congress of Cultists,” allegedly linked to the Neo-Black Movement, also known as Black Axe.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the Command said its attention had been drawn to a notice of protest purportedly issued by the faceless group, which it said was uncovered through intelligence.
The Command warned any individual or group planning to cause chaos, disturb public peace, or engage in any form of criminality to have a rethink, declaring that the police and other security agencies would not fold their hands and allow miscreants to use any opportunity to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state or destroy lives and property.
“Our operatives will respond decisively and appropriately to any action capable of threatening the peace and security of the state,” the statement read.
The Command further advised individuals or groups with grievances or disputes to seek lawful means of resolving such issues, stressing that no person or group should take the law into their own hands or resort to violence, self-help, or any form of reprisal attack.
Meanwhile, the police said a thorough and discreet investigation had commenced into a recent killing incident in the state, noting that the probe had already yielded useful leads. According to the Command, some of the suspects identified in connection with the incident are currently at large, adding that efforts were ongoing to track them down and bring them to justice.
It therefore appealed to members of the public, particularly those with useful information about the killing, to come forward and assist the police, assuring that such information would be treated with the necessary confidentiality.
“The Osun State Police Command will not relent in its efforts until all persons found to be involved in the incident are arrested and brought before the appropriate authorities to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
Reiterating its zero tolerance for acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order, the Command warned that any act threatening lives and property or disrupting the peace of the state would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, called on parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and responsible members of the public to prevail upon youths and other persons within their communities not to participate in any act capable of destabilizing the state.
Members of the public were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station or other security agency.
The Command said it remained committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across Osun State.
