President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing his passing at 71 as a major loss to his family, Delta State, and Nigeria.

Tinubu, in a condolence message issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, extended his sympathies to the Uduaghan family, the Delta State Government, and the people of the state.
The President described Uduaghan as a dedicated public servant whose leadership focused on the development of Delta State and service to the nation. Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health and later as Secretary to the State Government before being elected governor in 2007. He served two terms, leaving office in 2015.
According to Tinubu, Uduaghan’s administration pursued initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and the general welfare of residents.
The President noted that the former governor remained active in Delta State’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” Tinubu said.
He urged Deltans to draw strength from Uduaghan’s years of public service and the relationships he built across Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
On behalf of his family, the Federal Government, and the Nigerian people, Tinubu extended condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli; his children; his cousin and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori; as well as his friends and political associates.
The President prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for comfort for all those mourning him.
Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, having previously served in key positions within the state government. His death marks the end of a political career that spanned public health administration, state executive leadership, and continued involvement in the state’s political affairs.
