The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man over the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
Police said an intensive manhunt had been launched for the fleeing accomplice of the suspect.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, when the victim allegedly went to collect a key from someone in the area.
According to the victim, whose identity has been withheld, she was allegedly dragged into a building by two men and sexually assaulted.
Speaking in a video interview, the victim said she recognised one of the alleged suspects but did not know the identity of the second person.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode, said the victim’s mother formally reported the incident to the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1, at about 10:10 a.m.
According to the police, operatives immediately visited and secured the scene while efforts were made to gather relevant evidence.
Oluborode said the victim was also issued a police medical form and taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and care.
“Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old female victim in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down his fleeing accomplice,” the police spokesman said.
He added that one of the suspects was subsequently tracked down and arrested, while police operatives continued efforts to apprehend the second suspect.
