A motorcycle rider reportedly fell into a ditch in the Kuti area of Iwo, Osun State, after a section of a major road caved in, raising fresh concerns over the town’s recurring flooding and drainage problems.
The incident, captured on video, has highlighted the risks faced by motorists, motorcycle riders, and pedestrians using the affected route, particularly during heavy rainfall.
Residents say persistent flooding and inadequate drainage have contributed to the deterioration of roads in parts of Iwo, while also putting homes and businesses at risk.
The latest incident has renewed calls for the Osun State Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, to assess the affected areas and take necessary measures to improve drainage and repair damaged roads.
The flooding problem is not new. In August 2021, heavy flooding reportedly affected several houses in Iwo, while similar flooding was recorded in parts of the town in 2025.
With the latest road collapse in Kuti, residents are concerned that continued rainfall could worsen the situation and lead to more accidents and property damage.
They are therefore appealing for prompt and lasting measures to address Iwo’s recurring flooding and drainage challenges.
