Ikeja Electric Plc has commenced refunds to customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) programme.

The company disclosed this during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, where it also warned customers against using unauthorised electricians following recent fatal incidents linked to unsafe electrical work.
Ikeja Electric said eligible customers will receive their MAP refunds as credits through their electricity vending transactions over the approved refund period.
Customers can track their refund status online using their meter or account number. The refund dashboard shows the meter cost, refund count, monthly refund amount, total refund received, and the date of the last refund.
The company said applicable refund tokens would also be sent to customers’ registered phone numbers or email addresses.
Customers with complaints about their refunds were advised to use Ikeja Electric’s official complaint channels or visit their nearest undertaking office.
Speaking during the engagement, Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, urged customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations, or carry out illegal connections.
He said recent incidents had resulted in fatalities involving people who attempted unauthorised electrical activities around the company’s network.
“Please do not engage electricians to climb Ikeja Electric poles. If you see someone carrying out unsafe activities around our infrastructure, kindly report to us,” Olayiwola said.
He urged residents not to confront people involved in unsafe electrical activities but to report them through Ikeja Electric’s designated safety emergency channels.
Olayiwola also called on communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines, warning that encroachment on electricity infrastructure and inadequate right-of-way pose serious safety risks.
Meanwhile, Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications, urged customers to rely on Ikeja Electric’s official channels for accurate information and complaints.
“Our engagement with customers goes beyond providing information. It is about ensuring that our customers have the knowledge and channels they need to stay safe, seek assistance, and get their concerns properly addressed,” Okotie said.
