Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports suggesting that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative and local government positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor clarified that his political understanding with the Presidency is primarily focused on securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that there is no agreement to share seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, or Osun State House of Assembly with the APC.
Adeleke’s clarification followed reports circulating on social media alleging that the political arrangement between him and the Presidency includes sharing local government positions and legislative seats between the Accord Party and the APC in Osun State.
Describing the reports as false, the governor maintained that the coalition’s primary objective is to work towards Tinubu’s re-election, while candidates of the participating political parties remain free to contest other elective positions.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said efforts to resolve the lingering local government crisis in Osun were aimed at protecting the interests of all stakeholders rather than facilitating any political sharing arrangement.
The governor explained that the ongoing discussions were intended to address the interests of APC chairpersons as well as elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairpersons and councillors, with the ultimate goal of restoring effective grassroots administration across the state.
“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for,” he said.
According to Adeleke, stakeholders have agreed that restoring grassroots governance is essential to the success of their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also expressed confidence that the local government crisis would be resolved before the end of 2026.
Addressing the alleged agreement on legislative positions, Adeleke insisted that no deal had been reached with the Osun APC to share elective seats, maintaining that the alliance was limited to the presidential election.
“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear president is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open for competition,” the governor stated.
Adeleke further declared his intention to campaign for Accord Party candidates contesting for seats in the National Assembly and the Osun State House of Assembly.
He urged all political parties participating in the coalition to support their respective candidates in other elections, noting that the final decision would rest with the electorate.
“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate who has the final say,” he added.
The governor’s clarification comes amid political realignments in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with attention focused on the implications of his political relationship with the Presidency for the state’s electoral contests.
Adeleke’s position makes clear that while he is committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election, the contest for legislative seats in Osun will remain open to candidates of the various political parties.
