Briefing journalists in Osogbo on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, disclosed that the command had also recorded significant breakthroughs in cases of armed robbery, burglary, and a violent communal clash that claimed four lives in Alapa village.

According to the police chief, the suspects arrested over the Emir murder case include Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf Oyinlola, Ayeni Adegbola Olalekan, Hammed Olalekan Dauda (aka Jagaban), and Waliu Adejare (aka Jay Jay).

CP Zungura said the command received a distress call on September 13 reporting that armed men had invaded Mayfair Garage, Ile-Ife, firing sporadically and killing the victim. A fatal motor accident was also reported at Energy Filling Station along the Ile-Ife-Ibadan Road during the incident.

“I directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take charge of the case and ensure a thorough investigation,” the CP said.

Through sustained investigative efforts by the Homicide Section, four suspects were initially arrested with the assistance of the Amotekun Commandant. Further investigations led to the arrest of Hammed Olalekan Dauda, who was found in possession of a cut-to-size firearm. He reportedly confessed during interrogation that the weapon was given to him by one Nurudeen Alowonle.

The arrest of Waliu Adejare, a personal assistant to Alowonle, followed thereafter. Police say all the suspects were mobilized by Nurudeen Alowonle and Adeyemi Ojo (aka Sibi), both of whom are currently at large.

“The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in this heinous crime,” Zungura stated.

In a related development, the command paraded another six suspects for armed robbery: Olaiya Sunday (27), Akintunde Mariam (28), Agoro Kudus (27), Timileyin Idowu (23), Adekunle Ibrahim (30), and Temitope Opeyemi (29).

Exhibits recovered from the suspects included an iPhone 13, iPhone 11, Infinix Smart 10, Infinix Smart 8, and an Itel Android phone.

The CP explained that on September 24, operatives of the Swift Action Squad, while on stop-and-search duty at Akinlalu, Ipetumodu area along the Ile-Ife/Ibadan Expressway, intercepted an unregistered red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle ridden by Olaiya Sunday with a passenger now at large. Two persons arrived at the scene and identified the riders as the robbers who had snatched their unregistered TVS lady motorcycle and three phones.

“The suspects fled into the bush, but with the cooperation of the complainants, the rider was arrested. Upon investigation, the suspect confirmed the crime, stating that they were five in number and had left Oje Igosun in Ibadan with two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles,” Zungura said.

The suspect reportedly confessed that they had been operating in Ibadan, Osun, and Lagos, selling stolen motorcycles to one Seriki at Mokola, Ibadan, and stolen phones to one Oshodi in Lagos.

Akintunde Mariam, the girlfriend of one of the suspects, was arrested for allegedly using her National Identification Number to register SIM cards for the gang. On October 14, police detectives went to Oyo State Command, where two of the suspects—Agoro Kudus and Timileyin Idowu—who had been arrested by the Oyo State Police Anti-Cultism Section, were handed over.

Same day, Adekunle Ibrahim (aka Oshodi), the alleged receiver, and Temitope Opeyemi were arrested at Yemetu area, Ibadan, with five stolen phones. Investigation continues to recover the stolen TVS motorcycle and other stolen properties.

Burglary Suspect Arrested in Ogun

The command also arrested one Adeosun Gbenga (32) at Ifo, Ogun State, over conspiracy, burglary, and stealing. The complainant had reported that his Jumia pickup station at Ifo was burgled on August 22, 2026, with several phones and gadgets carted away.

The Cybercrime Unit of the State CID, Osogbo, swung into action and arrested Gbenga, recovering one iPhone 13, five Android phones, one tablet, two headsets, two watches, and a charger. The suspect confessed to the crime and had previously been remanded in a correctional centre for a related offence.

One Arrested Over Alapa Communal Clash

In another development, the command arrested one Oniyefa Olayemi in connection with the killing of four persons during a violent clash between rival groups at Alapa village, along Toro Road, Ile-Ife.

On October 5, 2026, the complainant from Odo Ogbe, Ile-Ife, reported at Police ‘B’ Division, Modakeke, that between October 4 and 5, some armed men numbering about ten invaded Alapa Village and opened fire sporadically, killing his mother, Toyin Olagbaju (40).

Preliminary findings revealed that two rival groups allegedly led by one Awosunle Tosin, currently at large, and Emmanuel Agunbiade (aka Abore), engaged in a violent dispute over the control of a vast cocoa farm at Alapa Village.

Items recovered at the scene include two Dane guns, one small axe, eleven expended cartridges, one live cartridge, three empty shells of AK-47 rifle ammunition, two empty shells of LAR rifle ammunition, one empty shell of assault rifle ammunition, and some locally made charms.

The deceased persons identified so far are Toyin Olagbaju, Emmanuel Agunbiade (aka Abore), one Akeem, and one Ademola (aka Small).

CP Warns Against Violence

CP Zungura warned individuals and groups against resorting to violence, the use of illegal firearms, or taking the law into their own hands over land disputes or other disagreements, urging members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful means.

“All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, in accordance with the law,” he said.

The CP assured the public that no effort would be spared in ensuring that all those connected with any crime are brought to book, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
