Brighton produced a stunning performance at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, sweeping aside defending Premier League champions Arsenal 3-0 and handing Mikel Arteta’s side their first league defeat of the season.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring before Charalampos Kostoulas doubled Brighton’s advantage. Debutant Chema Andrés then completed the rout early in the second half, heading home from a corner to put the Seagulls firmly in control.
Arsenal, who had won their opening four Premier League matches and conceded just once, struggled to cope with Brighton’s intensity and attacking movement throughout the encounter.
The result marks a dramatic turnaround for Brighton, who had already stunned Manchester United in midweek by coming from two goals down to win 3-2 in the Carabao Cup.
Brighton 3-0 Arsenal. The champions have been brought crashing back to earth on the south coast.
