MTN has warned its subscribers to be wary of a fake message circulating online claiming that the telecommunications company is offering customers 25GB of free data as part of its anniversary celebration.

The purported giveaway has reportedly been shared across social media platforms and messaging applications, with users being encouraged to click on links to claim the alleged 25GB data bundle.

Subscribers have, however, been advised to verify promotional offers through MTN’s official communication channels before clicking on unfamiliar links or providing personal information.

MTN runs various legitimate customer reward and promotional campaigns, but subscribers are encouraged to confirm the authenticity of any offer before taking action.

The company’s official promotional terms indicate that eligible customers may be contacted through recognised channels, including phone calls, SMS and notifications on the myMTN NG app.

Similarly, MTN’s data-gifting services are available through its authorised platforms, including the myMTN NG app and approved USSD channels.

Customers are therefore advised to exercise caution when receiving messages promising unusually large amounts of free data, particularly where the messages require them to visit unfamiliar websites, submit personal details or share the message with other users.

The warning comes amid growing cases of online scams targeting telecom subscribers through fake promotions and giveaways.

Subscribers who receive the alleged 25GB anniversary offer are advised to verify it through the company’s official channels before attempting to claim the data.
