Trump Signs New Orders Targeting Birthright Citizenship and Birth Tourism

President Donald Trump has signed two executive orders aimed at restricting birthright citizenship and addressing so-called “birth tourism,” renewing his administration’s efforts to change how U.S. citizenship is granted to children born in the country.

The orders seek to limit automatic citizenship in certain circumstances involving children born to non-citizen parents. The administration says the measures are intended to address what it considers abuses of the U.S. citizenship system.

The move comes after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an earlier Trump administration attempt to implement restrictions on birthright citizenship, setting the stage for a renewed legal and political battle over the interpretation of the 14th Amendment.

The latest orders are expected to face legal challenges, with opponents arguing that the president cannot unilaterally change the constitutional principle that generally grants citizenship to people born on U.S. soil.

The controversy is likely to reignite a long-running debate over the meaning of the 14th Amendment, immigration policy and the scope of presidential authority.
