No fewer than 500 Muslim women scholars, preachers and Da’wah leaders from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, declaring their support for his re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
The women, under the auspices of the Muslim Intellectuals Forum, announced their position during an engagement meeting in Kaduna on Sunday.
They said their decision was based on what they described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration in education, security, infrastructure and economic development.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué read by Aisha Iliyasu Tukur from Jigawa State at the end of the meeting.
The communiqué stated, “After presentations, observations, questions, and extensive deliberations, the participants considered the political direction of the country towards the 2027 general elections.
“In light of the aforementioned achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the open government policy, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office in the 2027 general election, Insha’Allah.”
The women said continuity would enable the administration to consolidate its programmes, complete ongoing projects and deepen reforms aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
They particularly commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, saying the scheme had expanded access to tertiary education and reduced financial barriers for students and their families.
According to the communiqué, the women were informed that 70 per cent of NELFund beneficiaries were from the North.
They also commended the Federal Government’s interventions in the security sector, including the reinforcement of military formations, procurement of equipment and recruitment of additional security personnel.
The women urged the government to sustain and expand interventions in security, education, infrastructure, employment and economic development.
They also called for greater consultation between the government and religious scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths and professionals.
Speaking at the gathering, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, said the endorsement was not motivated by sentiments or selfish interests but by the performance of the Tinubu administration.
Sani said the women had travelled from across the North to express their support for the President based on his policies and interventions.
He said, “They are not endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu based on sentiments or other selfish reasons. It is simply because of what he has done for Nigeria, and for Northern Nigeria in particular: in the area of education, in the area of infrastructure, in the area of health care, and in the area of agriculture, and even more importantly, in the area of security.”
The governor described the women as influential religious leaders capable of reaching millions of Nigerians at the grassroots.
He said the administration had made significant interventions in conventional education, technical and vocational education, and skills acquisition, while also supporting students through NELFund.
Sani urged the women to take their message to the 19 northern states, local government areas and wards.
“We as leaders who are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are here to support them, to urge them, to motivate them, to push them to do more and take this, their own message, to all the 19 Northern states, and all our wards and local governments by the grace of God,” he stated.
He further urged them to base their political campaigns on issues and the performance of the government rather than ethnicity, religion or regional sentiments.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election, saying the governors and the people of the North would stand by the President.
Yahaya said the participation of women, youths, experts and grassroots stakeholders at the meeting demonstrated the importance of collective action ahead of the 2027 election.
He stated, “We will stand by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Just as Malam Ahmad Masari stated earlier, I have no contrary opinion. I stand with him, our people stand with him, and God willing, we will succeed.”
The governor urged members of the All Progressives Congress to remain united and resist attempts to intimidate, confuse or divide them ahead of the election.
He also appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with the administration, arguing that some of the difficult economic decisions taken by the Federal Government were necessary to prevent deeper crises.
The meeting was attended by Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari; a former Zamfara State governor; and other political leaders.
The women also resolved to establish a women’s chapter of the Muslim Intellectuals Forum to coordinate their activities and contribute to the objectives of the organisation.
