The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has described Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as the best candidate capable of challenging and dislodging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The party made the declaration while assessing the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections and the prospects of opposition parties in unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the APM, Makinde’s performance in Oyo State, political experience and acceptance among Nigerians make him a strong contender for the presidency.
The party argued that the governor has demonstrated the leadership capacity required to lead the country and could provide a credible alternative to the APC administration.
The declaration comes amid growing realignment among opposition parties as political actors intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to attract attention beyond Oyo State, with his administration’s policies and political influence making him one of the prominent figures being discussed in opposition circles.
The APM said opposition parties must work together and present a candidate with broad national appeal if they are serious about defeating the APC in 2027.
The party’s position is coming at a time when political parties are already positioning themselves for the next presidential contest, with President Tinubu expected to seek re-election.
The 2027 election is therefore expected to witness intense political competition as the APC and opposition parties seek to consolidate their respective political bases across the country.
