Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the Allied People’s Movement (APM) is set for victory in the 2027 general elections after receiving thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Makinde made the declaration on Monday during the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Open Tennis Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The defectors, led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, were drawn from different local government areas across the state.
Sangogade is a personal assistant and loyalist to former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Receiving the new members into the APM, Makinde described the development as evidence of growing support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“God has signed off on what we are doing, and that is why it is raining. Today, we are welcoming thousands of APC members into the Allied People’s Movement, and this shows that our victory is only a matter of time,” Makinde said.
“We will win massively in all elections in 2027.”
The governor also challenged the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, to focus on convincing voters rather than criticizing his administration.
Makinde said Alli should concentrate on persuading residents to support his candidacy, adding that voters would decide in favor of the APM candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi.
The governor also renewed his criticism of Alli’s legal career while comparing his own professional background with that of Adekanmbi.
Makinde said he was an engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, while Adekanmbi, an accountant, was a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
He questioned whether Alli had attained similar recognition in his profession.
The Oyo governor also responded to criticism over the use of diesel-powered generators to operate streetlights in parts of the state.
Makinde blamed the situation on unresolved national electricity challenges, recalling President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promise on power supply.
He said if the country’s electricity challenges had been addressed, states would not need diesel generators to power public infrastructure.
The event also marked the official reception of Sangogade and his supporters into APM, with party leaders, government officials, and several political candidates in attendance.
