Veteran journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has attributed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election to his strong grassroots support and the influence of his nephew and Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Momodu, in his reaction to the outcome of the election, highlighted the role played by Adeleke’s connection with the people at the grassroots, noting that the governor’s political strength was evident across communities in the state.
According to him, Adeleke’s popularity was further boosted by the support and visibility provided by Davido, whose enormous following and public engagement attracted additional attention to the governor’s campaign.
The election saw Adeleke secure victory over his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), retaining his position as governor of Osun State.
The result has continued to generate reactions across political circles, with analysts examining the factors behind Adeleke’s successful re-election bid, including his grassroots mobilisation, political structure and the support of prominent figures.
Momodu’s comments add to the growing debate over the forces that shaped the outcome of the Osun governorship election and the significance of celebrity influence in contemporary Nigerian politics.
