The Osun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has said the payment of election duty allowances to personnel deployed for the August 15 governorship election in the state is still ongoing.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Joel Oyedokun, disclosed this on Wednesday during a telephone interview, following fresh complaints by some personnel that they had yet to receive their allowances.

Oyedokun explained that the payments were being processed electronically and urged affected personnel to remain patient, assuring them that the exercise had not been stopped.

“The payment is being done electronically. The payment is still ongoing. They started paying on Friday; some got theirs on Monday and some on Tuesday. The payment has not been stopped. It is still ongoing. That is the situation,” Oyedokun said.

The development comes after the command had earlier assured its personnel that efforts were being made to ensure the payment of the outstanding election duty allowances.

According to the command, the allowances include payments expected from both the Federal and Osun State governments.

“The NCoS authority has also assured personnel that their election allowances will be paid in due course.

“The command appreciates the patience and understanding of its personnel while the necessary processes are being concluded,” a previous statement signed by Oyedokun read.

The earlier assurance followed reports of delays in the payment of election duty allowances to about 300 personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service and operatives of other agencies under the Ministry of Interior deployed for the Osun governorship election.

Despite the assurances, some affected personnel had continued to express concerns over the delay in receiving their payments.

However, the Osun Correctional Service Command has now maintained that the disbursement is ongoing and that personnel who have yet to receive their allowances should remain patient as the electronic payment process continues.
