Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has given an immediate approval to the commencement of a two-hour weekly environmental sanitation exercise, beginning from Thursday, this week throughout the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the State Head of Service and Chairman of the newly constituted Osun State Environmental Sanitation Taskforce, Mr. Samuel Ayanleye Aina.

According to the statement, all offices, market operators, shop owners, artisans, malls, stores, and business premises owners, among others, are with this official directive of the Governor, expected to be physically present during the scheduled time of the compulsory environmental sanitation.

The statement adds that law enforcement agents will be made available during the sanitation exercise to complement the efforts, with a declaration that they are not to arrest anybody but enforce compliance.

The press statement maintains that the essence is to address the menace of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorized places with a view to stopping infractions of other related environmental regulations aimed at preventing outbreaks of diseases as well as ensuring cleanliness of the entire state.

Finally, the Chairman of the Taskforce enjoins the people of the state to cooperate while the two-hour long duration of 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. exercise lasts in Osun.
