Iwoland is celebrating another remarkable achievement as Super Falcons defender Rofiat Imuran completes a major move to Aston Villa Women.
Aston Villa Women have announced the signing of the 22-year-old Nigerian international left-back, subject to visa approval, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The transfer represents another significant milestone in the career of the talented defender, whose journey from grassroots football in Nigeria has taken her to some of the biggest stages in women’s football.
Imuran began her senior club career in France with Stade de Reims, joining the club in 2022 at the age of 18 as a Nigeria U-20 international. During her time in France, she developed into an energetic and attack-minded full-back, making more than 25 league appearances.
In 2024, she moved to England to join London City Lionesses, where she played an important role in the club’s promotion-winning campaign.
Her impressive development at club level has also been matched by her rise with the Nigerian national team.
🇳🇬 Imuran made her Super Falcons senior debut in 2022 and has since represented Nigeria at major international competitions, including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Her career has also seen her compete against some of the biggest clubs in women’s football, including Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Now, the Osun-born defender takes another giant step by joining Aston Villa Women as the club’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window.
Speaking after completing the move, Imuran expressed her excitement about joining the historic English club.
“I’m very excited to be here and I want to achieve a lot of things. It’s a big club with a lot of history, and it has big ambitions, and I want to be part of it.”
Aston Villa Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers, described Imuran as an exciting young defender, praising her pace, energy and quality. She also noted that the Nigerian’s attributes fit well with the style of football head coach Natalia Arroyo wants to implement.
