Nottingham Forest ended a remarkable 32-year wait for a victory at Villa Park after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in a dramatic Premier League clash on Saturday.
Forest, who had not won at the venue since October 1994, secured all three points through a late winner from Igor Jesus after Liam Delap had earlier opened the scoring.
Delap put Forest ahead shortly after the restart with a stunning long-range strike before Aston Villa levelled through Alysson, who headed in Villa’s first Premier League goal of the season.
With the game appearing destined for a draw, Igor Jesus struck in the 88th minute to complete Forest’s comeback and seal their first Premier League victory of the campaign.
The result was particularly significant given Villa’s dominance in the fixture at home. Before Saturday’s encounter, Forest had gone 11 consecutive visits to Villa Park without a win, dating back to their 2-0 victory in October 1994. Villa had won eight of those meetings and drawn three.
The victory also provides a measure of revenge for Forest, who were eliminated by Villa in last season’s Europa League semi-final after suffering a 4-0 defeat at Villa Park.
For Aston Villa, the defeat means they remain without a Premier League win after the opening four matches of the season, despite their midweek 3-2 Champions League victory over Club Brugge.
