The Osun State Government has cautioned the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, against making statements capable of inciting religious tension, communal unrest, and conflicts among residents of the state.

The government issued the warning in a letter addressed to the traditional ruler, expressing concern over remarks allegedly attributed to him which it considered capable of threatening peaceful coexistence and harmony among different religious and traditional communities.
The letter, dated November 2026, was signed by Wale Alliyu on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

In the letter, the state government reportedly directed the monarch to desist from inflammatory statements and conduct capable of creating religious divisions or escalating communal disagreements.
The government stressed the importance of maintaining peace, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among residents, particularly given the influential position traditional rulers occupy in their respective communities.
It further warned that traditional institutions have a responsibility to promote unity, understanding, and stability rather than engage in actions or public comments that could threaten the security of their subjects.
The ministry also indicated that it would monitor compliance with the directives issued to the monarch.
The development comes amid concerns over the role of traditional institutions in maintaining religious tolerance and peaceful relationships among communities in Osun State.

The Osun State Government has consistently emphasized the need for religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among residents, urging influential individuals and traditional leaders to exercise caution in their public statements.
Oba Akanbi, who is the traditional ruler of Iwoland, is expected to take note of the government’s warning and ensure that his public engagements do not undermine peace and unity in the state.
