The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Oyeyemi was reportedly shot on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following an incident around the Energy Filling Station area of Ile-Ife.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said its attention was initially drawn to an accident in the area, prompting the immediate deployment of police operatives to restore normalcy, secure the scene, and commence preliminary investigations.
The police said preliminary findings subsequently revealed that Oyeyemi, also known as Emir Ajagungbade, had been shot.
According to the command, investigations are ongoing to establish the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, strongly condemned the incident and warned individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands.
He also urged residents to desist from acts of reprisal, violence, destruction of property, and other forms of criminality that could further escalate tension in the community.
The police commissioner appealed to residents of Ile-Ife and other parts of the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist the investigation.
The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and public order, while extending its condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
