The lawmakers expressed concern over the rising number of infections and fatalities, stressing the need for stronger interventions to prevent further loss of lives, particularly among children who remain highly vulnerable to the disease.
The Assembly urged the state government and relevant health authorities to intensify awareness campaigns, vaccination programmes and other preventive measures across affected communities.
It also called for improved access to medical treatment and adequate healthcare facilities to ensure that suspected and confirmed cases are promptly identified and managed.
The lawmakers emphasised the importance of collaboration between government agencies, healthcare workers, parents and communities in containing the outbreak.
Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that can affect the throat and respiratory system and can become life-threatening if not treated promptly.
The Assembly therefore appealed to residents to take precautionary measures and seek immediate medical attention when symptoms associated with the disease are noticed.
