President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to chair the Africa Minerals Summit in New York, United States, as African leaders and key stakeholders gather to discuss the continent’s vast mineral resources and opportunities in the mining sector.

The summit is expected to bring together government officials, investors, mining industry leaders and other stakeholders to examine strategies for unlocking Africa’s mineral wealth and attracting more investments into the sector.

Tinubu’s role as chair is expected to further position Nigeria at the centre of discussions on Africa’s critical minerals, value addition and sustainable mining development.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity for participating countries to explore partnerships and policies aimed at ensuring that Africa derives greater economic benefits from its natural resources.

Nigeria has continued to emphasise the need for increased investment in its solid minerals sector as part of efforts to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenue.

The President’s participation in the summit is therefore expected to strengthen Nigeria’s advocacy for responsible mining, local value creation and greater international collaboration in developing Africa’s mineral resources.

The Africa Minerals Summit in New York is expected to feature high-level discussions on the future of the continent’s mining industry and the role of African countries in the global supply chain for critical minerals.
