Mourinho: Yamal Is a Very Good Player, But I Won’t Sign Him

José Mourinho has admitted that Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is a “very good player” but said he would not sign the teenage sensation for his team.

The Portuguese tactician made the remark while discussing the 19-year-old Spain international and his rapid development into one of the most exciting players in world football.

Yamal has established himself as a key player for Barcelona despite his young age, earning widespread recognition for his dribbling ability, creativity, close control and capacity to influence matches from the wing.

His performances have also made him one of the most talked-about young footballers in Europe, with his name frequently linked with the biggest clubs and highest transfer valuations in the game.

However, Mourinho, known for his strong opinions on players and tactical approach, made it clear that being impressed by a footballer’s ability does not necessarily mean he would want to sign him.

“Yamal is a very good player, but I wouldn’t sign him,” Mourinho said.

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham manager has previously worked with several world-class attacking players and is known for prioritising tactical discipline, physicality and players who fit specific systems.

Yamal’s attacking freedom and creative style have been central to Barcelona’s approach, with the winger often operating from the right flank and using his pace and technical ability to create chances and take on defenders.

Despite Mourinho’s comments, Yamal’s reputation continues to grow. The youngster has already achieved remarkable milestones at both club and international level and is widely regarded as one of the leading talents of his generation.

His performances for Barcelona and Spain have also placed him under intense scrutiny, with expectations continuing to rise around his career.

Mourinho’s comments are therefore unlikely to diminish the growing admiration for Yamal, but they underline the Portuguese manager’s personal preference when it comes to building a squad.

Yamal remains under contract with Barcelona, where he is expected to continue playing a major role as the Catalan club pursue domestic and European honours.
