The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that the National Sports Commission (NSC) offered the Super Falcons a ₦10 million reward for every goal scored against Egypt in their decisive Group C clash at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The incentive was part of a broader motivation package designed to inspire the nine-time African champions ahead of the crucial encounter, with qualification for the quarter-finals and a place in contention for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup at stake.
The NSC had earlier announced a $5,000 bonus for every goal scored during the group stage of the tournament, a pledge made by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko during a visit to the team’s training camp in Rabat. However, ahead of the must-win fixture against Egypt, the commission reportedly added a special ₦10 million-per-goal incentive, further boosting the players’ morale.
The Super Falcons responded in emphatic fashion, thrashing Egypt 6-2 at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the competition.
Nigeria opened the scoring in the 21st minute when captain Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty after a VAR review confirmed a handball. Substitute Gift Monday doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time before Egypt reduced the deficit just before the break.
After halftime, the Falcons completely dominated proceedings. Uchenna Kanu restored Nigeria’s two-goal cushion in the 57th minute, while Christy Ucheibe and Rasheedat Ajibade each converted penalties awarded after VAR interventions. Joy Omewa added the sixth goal deep into stoppage time after an excellent build-up involving Ajibade and Gift Monday, completing a commanding 6-2 victory.
The six-goal haul means the Super Falcons stand to receive ₦60 million under the special goal bonus, in addition to the previously announced $5,000 reward per group-stage goal, if all the incentives are fully honoured.
Speaking after the match, NFF officials praised the team’s professionalism and fighting spirit, noting that the financial incentives reflected the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes and rewarding excellence on the international stage.
The victory sends Nigeria into the WAFCON quarter-finals, where the defending champions will face long-time rivals Cameroon as they continue their quest for another continental title and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
