The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Adeleke’s administration of victimising and intimidating some local government workers over their alleged support for the opposition party during the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The APC made the allegations in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi.
The party claimed that the Osun State Local Government Service Commission had constituted a committee to investigate council workers suspected of supporting the APC during the election.
According to the APC, some of the affected workers have been invited before an investigative and disciplinary panel at the Local Government Service Commission in Abere, Osogbo.
The party further alleged that the workers were instructed to bring their mobile phones, which were reportedly searched for communications with APC members before and during the election.
The APC also alleged that the panel was examining whether some members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees had accounts with United Bank for Africa, amid the ongoing dispute between the state government and the bank over local government funds.
The party described the alleged actions as “inhuman, barbaric and unconstitutional,”arguing that workers should not be subjected to disciplinary measures based on their political choices.
“Several council workers have reportedly been invited to appear before the government officials in Osogbo, where they were allegedly questioned about their political activities and subjected to scrutiny over their banking transactions,” the statement said.
The APC further claimed that some workers had been threatened with dismissal, suspension, or other disciplinary measures because of their perceived political affiliations.
The party linked the alleged development to the continuing dispute over the control of Osun’s 30 local government councils, where the PDP-led state government and APC-backed council officials have taken opposing positions over the administration of the councils.
The APC also referenced an allegation made in May by the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers that more than 400 council workers had been suspended or removed from the state payroll for allegedly working with APC-reinstated local government officials.
The party questioned the basis for using workers’ mobile phones and bank transactions to establish their political affiliations, arguing that voting in Nigeria is conducted by secret ballot.
The APC consequently called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to reactivate the accounts of any affected local government workers whose salary accounts had allegedly been deactivated and disband the committee investigating the workers.
The party maintained that local government employees should be allowed to carry out their official responsibilities without being subjected to pressure over their political preferences.
