The Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar, has reduced the processing time for passport applications and renewals to about two weeks following a 10-day intervention exercise aimed at clearing backlogs and improving consular services.
The exercise, held from August 11 to 21, 2026, resulted in the processing of passport applications for 751 Nigerian nationals.
Of the applications processed, 441 were for five-year passports, while 310 were for 10-year passports.
The embassy commenced the distribution of the completed passports to applicants on September 18, less than a month after the biometric capture exercise ended.
The intervention was designed to address the backlog of passport applications and improve the efficiency of consular services for Nigerians living in Qatar.
The development is expected to ease the challenges faced by Nigerians who require valid passports for international travel, employment, residency, and other official purposes.
The embassy said the faster turnaround time demonstrates its commitment to providing more efficient and responsive services to Nigerians in the Gulf country.
The latest exercise also reflects efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians living abroad by reducing delays in the processing and delivery of travel documents.
