The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has stepped down from the August 15 Osun State governorship election and endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeyemi-Doro announced his withdrawal and endorsement on Saturday during the Osun Youth Interactive Session with Oyebamiji, organised by the APC Campaign Council in Osogbo.

The APGA candidate said the decision followed extensive consultations with the party’s leadership and members across the state.

According to him, discussions with the APGA state chairman, secretary and other senior members eventually led to an agreement to align with the APC candidate.

“I am here today to declare publicly to the good people of Osun State our allegiance, support, and collaboration as we join His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and the All Progressives Congress, APC,” Adeyemi-Doro said.

He explained that he had closely assessed the candidates in the race before arriving at the decision.

“I have been watching the candidates closely, and after wide consultations with my state chairman, secretary, and other senior members of the party, we have reached an alignment. At the end of the day, we are all progressives,” he added.

Adeyemi-Doro expressed optimism that the alliance would help deliver victory to Oyebamiji in the August 15 election.

“We look forward to a situation where, by the special grace of God, we will deliver Osun State to our governor, Oyebamiji,” he said.

Reacting to the endorsement, Oyebamiji commended Adeyemi-Doro and the APGA leadership for their support.

The APC candidate also said he remained open to discussions with other political parties and candidates participating in the governorship election, as he seeks to broaden support ahead of the poll.

The development comes just days before Osun residents will go to the polls to elect the state’s next governor.
